The user did not make a direct post on Reddit; instead, they shared a link to their blog entry that criticized Google and its AI. This allowed Mueller to visit the website, find the issue rooted in the JavaScript application, and clarify that the problem was not caused by Google.

mention of “cross-page AI aggregation” and “liability issuesraises eyebrows since those phrases are not recognized terminology in computer science.

The “cross-page” reference probably pertains to Google’s Query Fan-Out, which transforms a query in Google’s AI Mode into several related queries sent to Google’s Classic Search.

As
for “liability issues,” while vector is a genuine term discussed in SEO and is part of Natural Language Processing (NLP), “Liability Vector” is not included in that context.

The
Reddit user's blog acknowledges their uncertainty regarding Google's ability to determine if a website is operational or not:

“I’m not certain if Google has any unique capability to identify whether websites are live or not. Even if my internal service was down, Google wouldn’t detect it due to it being secured behind a login barrier.”

Additionally,
they may lack knowledge on how RAG or Query Fan-Out functions, or perhaps on how Google's AI frameworks operate. The writer seems to view it as a revelation that Google refers to newly acquired data versus Parametric Knowledge (information included in the LLM from training).

They mention that Google’s AI response implies the site has been reported as down since 2026:

…it explicitly refers to the period as early 2026. Given that the website was nonexistent prior to mid-2025, this implies that Google possesses relatively current information; but once more, those LLMs!”

on in the blog post, the Reddit user concedes that they are puzzled about why Google maintains that the website is offline.
They shared that they implemented a random solution by eliminating a pop-up. They mistakenly assumed that the pop-up was responsible for the problem, emphasizing the need to accurately identify the source of issues before making adjustments in hopes of resolving them.

The Reddit user expressed uncertainty about how Google summarizes site information in response to inquiries regarding the site, voicing worry that Google might pull in irrelevant data and present it as a valid response.

They wrote:

“We lack clarity on how Google precisely combines the variety of pages it utilizes to create responses for LLM.

This is concerning because anything featured on your webpages could affect unrelated responses.

Google’s AI might select any of this and present it as the solution.”

I
do not blame the author for lacking knowledge about how Google AI search functions, as it seems not widely understood. It is straightforward to perceive it as an AI providing answers.

However,
the fundamental functioning is that AI search builds upon Classic Search, with the AI aggregating the information it finds online to formulate a response in natural language. It is akin to posing a question to someone, who then looks it up on Google and conveys the answer based on what they gathered from various website pages.

Google’s John Mueller Clarifies the Situation

Mueller replied to the Reddit post in a calm and courteous way, demonstrating where the issue lies with the Redditor’s implementation.

Mueller stated:

“Is that your website? I would advise against using JavaScript to change the text on your page from not available to available and instead just load that entire segment directly from JavaScript. This way, if a user does not execute your JavaScript, they won’t be misled by inaccurate information.

This resembles how Google doesn’t suggest using JavaScript to alter a robots meta tag from noindex to please consider my lovely HTML markup for inclusion (since ‘index’ is not a robots meta tag, you can be inventive).”

Mueller’s explanation clarifies that the website depends on JavaScript to swap placeholder text that briefly appears before the page is loaded, which only functions for visitors whose browsers run the script.

What occurred here is that Google indexed the placeholder text presented by the webpage as the content. Google found the original displayed message stating “not available” and regarded it as the actual content.

Mueller clarified that it is better to include accurate information in the page’s foundational HTML from the beginning so that both users and search engines receive identical content.
